Job Opportunity - Legal Associate to Judge

The Family Court of Western Australia invites applications for the above position from persons with a tertiary qualification in Law (preferably Honours, but not essential). These positions are for twelve (12) months, with an option for a further twelve (12) months. One position commences on 24 February 2020. Further appointments may be made from this process within the next 12 months.

Mediation Pilot

The Court is to conduct a pilot program to provide additional mediation services to litigants involved in Family Court proceedings, specifically those who are self-represented litigants. The program will run from 15 July 2019 to 30 June 2020.

Practice Direction 1 of 2019 - Modified Forms

Cross Examination - Changes to Family Law Act

The Family Law Act 1975 (Cth)* was amended on 10 March 2019 to provide that from 10 September 2019, parties in family law proceedings are prohibited from personally cross-examining each other (which usually occurs at a trial) where there is an allegation of family violence between them and certain circumstances apply.
